Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has plead guilty to two counts of Obstruction of Justice (felonies).  He will resigned immediately effective in two weeks, serve five (5) years reporting probation, one-hundred-twenty (120) days in jail, pay one million ($1,000,000.00) dollars restitution to the City of Detroit.  He will not seek office for five years (not that it matters as felons cannot run for office in the State of Michigan).  He has also surrendered his law license and gives up his pension.

In the assault case, he plead No Contest to assault, will resign immediately effective in two weeks, serve one hundred twenty (120) days concurrent with his other sentence.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy makes it very clear that these were the terms of her office, not Mr. Kilpatrick’s, although him resigning was apparently a bone thrown in by his laywers.

It’s over folks.  This is a good thing. 

As fallout – Police Chief Ella Bully Cummings has resigned effective immediately.
