I’ll bet that’s the last time she asks me to pray for her.

City Council member Monica Conyers, the wife of powerful Democratic congressman John Conyers, pleaded guilty Friday to accepting cash bribes in exchange for supporting a sludge contract with a Houston company.
Conyers, 44, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery for allegedly accepting two payments from a Synagro Technologies official in late 2007, including one in a McDonald’s parking lot.
She entered her plea before Judge Avern Cohn at 10 a.m. with her attorney Steven Fishman.
Conyers was solemn in court, having to be asked three times by the judge to speak up.
Conyers is facing three to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines. No sentencing date has been set.
Congratulations, Detroit, on setting another stellar example on how not to be taken seriously. Maybe when the elections comes around again in November, you’ll remember that it’s the slicked politicians with the biggest mouths or the most number one hits. You’re really going to want to read up on your candidates, ask yourself tough questions, and decide who you want to be the people to lead you out of the massive hole you’ve spent the last 30 years digging yourself into.
Conyers was seen Wednesday in casual clothes and a baseball cap, talking to contractors on her roof and she called herself “a child of God” on her weekly radio show Tuesday.
Conyers told viewers, “If you’re not praying for me, then you’re just adding to the problem.”
When you ask the Powers That Be favors, you’d best be sure you’re on the right side of things. Otherwise the prayers that get answered may not be the ones you were hoping for.
